Abstract	Cancer has seen a rise in incidence rates in many countries in recent years, Vietnam being no exception. Oncology social workers play a central role to assess patients’ needs and provide interventions in addressing their physical, intra-psychic, interpersonal and environmental problems. This paper is a mixed-methods cross-sectional study conducted from June to August 2017 in two branches of the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital. Data collection involved structured interviews with a total of 418 cancer patients, four in-depth interviews with related department heads, and one focus group discussions with 6 social workers. Findings from the study reveal patterns in patient demand and capacity for social work services provision. The paper concludes with brief recommendations to address gaps in service delivery, training, and research.
